Hi there
I have stumbled across your site recently whilst researching my own Drinwkater family. I have been researching for over 20 years, and can surely say that we are related. My maternal ancestors were Drinkwaters too.

Your Thomas Drinwkater of 1756 born at Witton Northwich Cheshire son of William was an elder brother of John Drinkwater born 1750 at Witton Northwich Cheshire . John was a direct ancestor of mine.

My interest is that only around three years ago, I made a leap of faith and placed Thomas the son of William as the Thomas Drinkwater who married Jane Bebbington and settled at Middlewich.

I do hope that you see this message as I would very much like to make contact with you
kind regards

Hi, I am the son of Ralph Downing,
son Of Thomas Downing,
son of Alice Poyser,
daughter of Harriet Poyser,
who are all in generation 6 of your "Descendants of Thomas Poyser" page.
I found out a lot from here, For instance I only knew of one of my grandmother's siblings, and you have 7 of them. Thanks for that.
You are short of a few of her offspring, I can help there if needed.
I will pass the link on to my cousins, several of whom are researching their trees.
Thanks again

I read with interest your research on Mary Awdry. I am currently researching the Awdry family as I work at Notton House. I would love to see a copy of the newspaper article regarding the letting of the property, or if you could let me know where you found it that would be great too!

Please refer to my comment on the site for Mary Awdry. I would welcome any help at all with my research. I am trying to find out why the Awdry and Arnold families were in this part of the world. My most important question is: What was the address of the Arnold family in St. Mary's Street, Chippenham.

Thank you for the information you have included on the Alexander brothers. I have been researching my Alexander family tree for a year and it came as quite a surprise to find not one but three gr gr gr uncles who were convicts. Your site has given me a wonderful insight as to how their lives continued after they became free men that I doubt I ever would have found otherwise. We also have a Dowling connection, so the information on the shephard was very interesting too. Thanks again, Dianne

Hello,
Just accessed your site for info re Edmund I Magnificent who by the way happens to be my 30th GGF. It is so very interesting when one begins researching ancestry (which I am). I am in Brisbane Australia, and will be visiting the UK this coming June. Plan on visiting many churches, graveyards and castles where my ancestors once frequented. It appears that we are all connected in one way or another. (Six degrees of separation?!)
Your site is something to behold. Congrats on all the effort.

I happened across your lovely family site whilst looking into my wife's family (Bailey) - and then I found my own name as the last entry! What a surprise!

In the meantime you have extended my search into the Bailey family back a couple of generations - many many thanks.

Just a very small point - I notice that some of your dates of birth are actually the dates upon which the child was baptised. A child was (and is) rarely baptised on the day s/he was (is) born unless there was (is) a likelihood that s/he was (is) going to die soon.

In the meantime thank you very much again. Do feel free to get in touch.

Hi thanis to your web site you have saved us a little work as we had little information on my grandmas family the Lunds. She was Jessie Wilson amd my father was Albert. There are a few Wilsons still in the Selby area, even the odd Lund(though I dont know them). My late father all ways used to tell us of relatives in manchester a few he met in his youth. Also my Aunty Mary (you have her as Dorothy M Wilson, but she only used Mary) went to Manchester to work with one of my grandmothers sister with a view to taking over on her aunties shop when she retired. Unfortunaley Aunty Mary was too young and came home and lived all her life in York with Grandma and Grandad. Once again thanks Richard

Very interesting to find your website. My great-grandmother was Alice Holden,Charles Holden's sister. Some of your facts aren't quite accurate,though-eg, some dates and some facts.
My grandmother had many memories of the Jordan Street area,as she did not move away until she was over 20 years old.She was, unfortunately, not truthful, and a good many of her facts have turned out to be invention, but there are some things I could check!

Do get in touch if you're interested.

You stated that you were excited to be related to a famous author, the Rev. W. Awdry. Well how would you feel about being related to Jane Austen? Yes it's true. And Jane Austen's fiancee, Harris Bigg Wither.
I worked at the Jane Austen Centre in Bath and have been researching her more obscure relatives for a book I am writing. I live in Chippenham and found a connection between her, the Arnolds and the Awdrys from the town. Like you, the mountains of papers are giving me headaches. Why did they recycle the same names over and over? I am just beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, but there are still questions I need answers to.
Maybe we could share some of our research. I look forward to hearing from you.

I left a comment last year after reading your page on descendants of Juniah Holden.
I have just read your sad family story about the personalities of your mother and grandmother, and wish I had read it earlier, before I leapt in with a comment!
What you say about coldness, distance, controlling behaviour etc.sounds exactly like my grandmother(dau.of Alice Holden, grandau.of John). She had favourites, the oldest and youngest child in particular. My mother was treated by her appallingly;I would say her parenting was emotionally abusive:believe me,that is the KIND description.
Anxiety disorders, obsessive disorders have been sufferd by some members of the extended family. In addition,I would say that my oldest aunt definitely had an eating disorder.
Some members of this family are decidedly sociopathic(I hasten to add,not my part of the family).
My grandmother described her mother,Alice Holden,as being cold and controlling.I have never known whether to believe this,as my grandmother wasn't truthful, but perhaps now I should.

I have been very sorry to hear your sad stories, and hope it doesn't make things worse that there does appear to be a familial problem in some respects.

With Best Wishes,

Jenny

Hi and thank you for all your labors. I have found a shaky line from John Awdry(1732) who married Sarah Susanna Roston. Looks like she was the daughter of Thomas Roston & Susanna Long. Susanna was(?) the daughter of Lady Henrietta* Greville & James Long! What'a ya think??

Hi, I was passed this website by Luke Williams in Australia whose mother's cousin is related to Joseph Alexander.

Joseph Alexander is my great grandfather x 4 and I am descended from the English line and his son Josiah. His English family were left behind when he was transported to Tasmania in 1831.

Interestingly Mary Awdry, daughter of Rev. Walter Herbert Awdry had a brother William Frederick Awdry who died in 1946 near Birmingham, England. Looks like Walter Herbert & Mary Awdry had no great grandchildren except those unacknowledged descendants of James W. F. Bailey! I think these folks are IT.

If you need any more details about William Frederick Awdry, I have some. He and Eleanor Evett had a daughter, Eleanor Bagnall Evans Awdry, who lived her life in the family home in Birmingham, B13.
